CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Re:National Skin Disease Detection and Prevention Week (SKINWEEK)

Dear Colleague,

Greetings!

On November 8-14, 2009, the Philippine Dermatological Society will be celebrating its 10th year of holding the National Skin Disease Detection and Prevention Week (SKINWEEK). This yearly activity aims to promote skin health for all Filipinos by focusing on early detection and prevention of skin diseases.

As has been done last year, our Society will conduct the SKINWEEK FREE CLINIC. PDS and industry sponsors will be holding free dermatology clinics in barangay health centers and parishes in key cities throughout the Philippines, giving free consultation and medicines. We invite everyone to show your support and offer your services and expertise for the benefit of our fellow countrymen.

Free clinic days are scheduled for: November 8 (Sunday), Nov. 9 (Monday), Nov. 10 (Tuesday), and Nov. 14 (Saturday). For those willing to join, you may contact any member of the SKINWEEK Task Force (Dr. Mylene Ledda, Dr. Jun Pascual or Dr. Suzanne Manalo).

We hope for your continued participation in this worthwhile activity the same way you have supported our past SKINWEEK Program.

Yours truly,
MERCEDITA F. MARCELINO, MD, FPDS

MTGGabrielCosmetic dermatology is an area which has grown significantly and has rapidly evolved during the past ten years. We are now surrounded by various technologies and innovations that it becomes difficult to decide which really works. The Preconvention workshop theme: 3C’s of Cosmetic Dermatology: Concepts, Controversies and Challenges” will enlighten you on the newest discoveries and developments in this field. The speakers are the gurus in their field and will highlight different approaches in rejuvenation, give us a glimpse of reconstructive surgery and offer varied options in anti-aging, be it invasive or non-invasive. It becomes doubly exciting because of the afternoon workshop which will feature the most recent equipments and hottest trends in cosmetic dermatology. We have a host of quality speakers and experts with irrefutable skills who will be handling the demo session.

This is an educational oppportunity you should not forgo!

As dermatologists, do we age professionally and would want to constantly rejuvenate?

This year’s pre-convention offers some exciting anti-aging topics, under the theme “3Cs: Concepts, Controversies and Challenges,” in Cosmetic Dermatology. Is stem cell therapy a real source of hope? What other new remedies are now within our reach? What is the future of effective procedures like botulinum toxin and fillers? What advances are there in lasers? What trends are there in hand rejuvenation? We look forward to your participation in the pre-convention on November 11, 2009 at Crowne Plaza.

Message from the President

GPastorfide-PresidentTruly an event to look forward to, the Philippine Dermatological Society will once again is holding its 33rdAnnual Convention at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Hotel on November 12-13, 2009. Because of the continuous influx of knowledge and advances in dermatology, the Organizing Committee aptly chose the theme “Dermatology: Look back, Leap Ahead”.

The annual convention has always been a venue for learning and exchanging of ideas. Thus, the scientific committee has invited international as well as local speakers to share their knowledge and expertise on various topics that are of interest to all dermatologists. The information gained from this convention will certainly improve the quality of care we give to our patients.

On the other hand, the pre-convention workshop promises to be equally impressive as the main convention. With the theme entitled “3C’s of Cosmetic Dermatology: Concepts, Controversies and Challenges”, participants will be kept abreast with the latest techniques and updates in improving the physical appearance of their patients.

Don’t miss the opportunity to be a participant in this convention. So see you there!
