The Philippine Dermatological Society in its desire to help the public distinguish legitimate, board certified dermatologists from fake pseudodermatologists, conceptualized the making of a sign or symbol that PDS members can easily display or use in their respective clinics. The "Seal of Excellence" was thus finally made public last .. Dr. Carmen Menchu D. Liwanag will be honored at a recognition luncheon at the March 2009 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in San Francisco, USA. She was selected as a Member Making a Difference. whicj is part of the AAD Leadership Circle for Volunteerism Program, according to Dr. Neil S. Prose, Chair of the Volunteerism Committee.
According to the feature in the Member Making a Difference column in the Dermatology World Magazine (August 2008), Dr. Liwanag devotes regular hours of her time to a free clinic that she holds in her hometown of Minalin, Pampanga. She began her voluntary service when she was still a resident. She spends half a day every month giving free consultations and sometimes, even medications.
She is also a member of Couples for Christ ( CFC ), whose activities bring her to many places to give care to indigent and marginalized citizens.
