What is the Seal of Excellence?
The Philippine Dermatological Society in its desire to help the public distinguish legitimate, board certified dermatologists from fake / pseudodermatologists, conceptualized the making of a sign or symbol that PDS members can easily display or use in their respective clinics. The “Seal of Excellence” was thus finally made public last November 2005 at the Holiday Inn Galleria. Present during the ceremony were Dr. Modesto Llamas, president of the Philippine Medical Association; Dr. Ma. Lorna F . Frez, president of the Philippine Dermatological Society and Dr. Evangeline B. Handog, head of the Task Force Seal of Excellence. The Seal of Excellence was launched in the presence of members of the press.
PDS members of good standing were issued The “Seal of Excellence” during the November 2005 Annual Convention. It was explained that the glass template of the seal signifies class and sophistication while the actual PDS logo in stainless steel material signifies strength and solidarity of the society. The silver rays around the logo symbolize the uniqueness of the S ociety , the PDS being the only recognized specialty society for dermatology by the Philippine College of Physicians and the Philippine Medical Association.
To enable the general public to distinguish duly-trained dermatologists from pseud od ermatologists ; to facilitate monitoring of PDS members as to the ethical practice of the specialty; to encourage members to participate in the various activities of the Society; to encourage members to practice their craft with utmost ability and dedication.
The Seal has a validity of two years and renewable for members who remain in good standing with the Society.
