Skin Safety Campaign
The PDS Skin Safety Campaign
The Skin Safety Campaign is being launched by the Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) in part because of the proliferation of centers or clinics offering dermatologic procedures -- from chemical skin peeling to collagen and silicone injections -- without a duly licensed and qualified dermatologist.
As more people become increasingly open to undergoing skin procedures, the PDS recognizes the need and its duty to protect the public from unqualified persons performing these services.
The PDS Skin Safety Campaign emanates from a deep concern that the public remains unaware of the risks and potentially grave consequences these seemingly innocuous but invasive procedures can bring at the hands of non-experts.
Being the recognized group of medical professionals in skin health, the PDS therefore asserts its authority as the vanguard of public safety on all issues regarding skin care.
The Skin Safety Campaign Symbol represents the PDS advocacy and commitment to public safety as regards skin health through (1) information dissemination and (2) the promotion of consultation with certified PDS dermatologists. It has two colors: the blue color of the society, and a gold color indicating the gold standard measure of quality and excellence that the society adheres to. Through the Skin Safety Campaign symbol, the public is made aware of the distinction between dermatologists and non-dermatologists. Anyone who is not a physician with a PDS certification falls under the latter category. The prescription pad of your dermatologist will indicate if the doctor is a PDS Fellow (FPDS), Diplomate (DPDS), and PDS Associate or Affiliate.
This symbol of safety will be displayed on the clinic door or prominently positioned inside the clinic of the dermatologist -- signifying the doctor is a member of the PDS, the only specialty society for dermatology recognized by the Philippine Medical Association. Thus, legitimate dermatologists who are part of the Skin Safety Campaign are identified.
Look for the Skin Safety Campaign symbol when consulting about your skin. It is the PDS seal assuring competent care and your safety.
