SCFI Consultant Staff and Residents

The Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS) in partnership with the Dermatopathology Subspecialty Core group and the Skin and Cancer Foundation, Inc. (SCFI) held its monthly Continuing Medical Education (CME) activity at the Henry Sy Auditorium of St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City, entitled “Health Systems Applied to Dermatology”. The event started with a prayer led by Dr. Sylvia Jacinto, SCFI President and Chairman Emeritus and opening remarks by the SCFI Chairman, Dr. Vermen Verallo-Rowell.
The first three speakers’ lectures focused on how technology and health informatics has influenced medicine especially in the field of Dermatology. Dr. Jose Dumagay who developed the PDS Health Information System shared the importance and use of this system in practice and introduced the concept of System Development Life Cycle for building information systems. Dr. Jonathan Yu talked about the digital age in relation to Cosmetic Dermatology. Dr. Iris Thiele Isip-Tan’s animated lecture introduced trends such as mobile application in Dermatology and UV Epidermal Patches. She also focused on how Telemedicine has changed the healthcare delivery system.
Ms. Anna Marie Tancongco Anastacio from the Chamber of Cosmetic Industry educated the audience with the Asian Cosmetic Directive and its relevance to Dermatologists. The last speaker was Ms. Rhoda Manoloto from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who updated us with FDA policies on Cosmeceuticals. Both lectures stressed the importance of regulations for innovations in cosmetics.
The program ended with a closing remark given by the PDS president, Dr. Daisy King Ismael. The event was a success, capturing the audience with the practical and relatable topics for the afternoon.
