In the afternoon of May 24, 2017, the Makati Medical Center Department of Dermatology hosted its Continuing Medical Education Course at their home base with the event entitled, Immunodermatology and Legal Medicine : Coup d’etat of the Skin and How to Avoid Lawsuits in Dermatologic Practice.

This CME was divided into two parts, the first focused on Immunodermatology and the second was on Legal Medicine. For Immunodermatology, two rare cases were presented by second year residents with respective consultant reactors. The first was a case of Pemphigus Vulgaris reported by. Dr. Angeli Eloise Torres and Dr. Katrina Canlas-Estrella gave her expert insights on the case. The second was a case of Amyotrophic Dermatomyositis presented by Dr. Rahina Galvez and Dr. Jasmin Jamora gave a concise informative discussion on the approach to diagnosis and management of this condition.

For the part of Legal Medicine, we invited three adept and intellectual lawyers, namely Atty. Howard M. Calleja, Atty. Albert Rebosa, MD and Atty. Nelson Logronio. They lectured on a variety of common lawsuits in the practice of Dermatology and most especially increased our awareness on how avoid to avoid them.

Each segment ended with a battle of the minds via an interactive open forum wherein our consultants and guest speakers answered questions of our participative audience.

It was indeed an afternoon to remember and this event would not have been as successful and enlightening as it was without the hard work, creative minds of the residents, consultants and especially with the help of the department’s CME Committee Head, Dr. Esther Leynes and beloved chairman, Dr. Peachy Paz-Lao.
