First National Eczema Congress and Fair: “Sama Sama Laban sa Eczema”

The Philippine Dermatological Society held the 1st National Eczema Congress and Fair entitled “Sama Sama Laban sa Eczema” last July 23, 2017 at the Atrium, Robinsons Place Midtown, Manila. This activity highlights the Philippine Dermatological Society’s 65th Year Anniversary of excellence and service in Dermatology and in celebration of World Skin Health Day. The 1st National Eczema Congress and Fair was organized in collaboration with the International Society of Dermatology and International League of Dermatological Societies and was Philippines Dermatological Society’s participation in the World Skin Health Day.

Officers, board members and members of the PDS were present during the event. Dr. Evangeline Handog, International Society of Dermatology’s immediate past president was also present during the said occasion. The event was kicked off by welcoming remarks given our PDS President, Dr. Ma. Angela Lavadia. Dr. Vanessa Carpio had a lecture on photoprotection while Dr. Ma. Lourdes Palmero discussed how the environment affects the skin and how to sanitize it. Dr. Johannes Dayrit gave a lecture on how sports affect the skin. During the eczema and psyche part, a short game was facilitated by Dr. Maria Tricia Manlongat-Malahito and Dr. Mary Renebe Tugon of EAMC. A lecture on work-related skin conditions was tackled by Dr. Roberto Pascual while management of chronic eczema was discussed by Dr. Ma. Angela Lavadia. Dr. Lillian Villafuerte, Dr. Lorna Frez, Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and Dr. Bernadette Arcilla served as panel of reactors after all the lectures were given.  To cap off the event, closing remarks was given by Dr. Jasmin Jamora, PDS Treasurer.

During the event, residents and consultants from the different PDS-accredited institutions gave free skin consultations to the mall employees, mall goers and the general public. There were also commercial exhibitors with booths who gave out freebies. In between the lectures, there were games and mob dances c/o the RITM residents to keep the momentum alive. Chesca Kramer and her daughter Scarlet were special guests. They shared their experiences with eczema and its management from a patient’s viewpoint.

It was indeed a very fruitful day for the Philippine Dermatological Society and its members. For the 1st National Eczema Congress and Fair, it was a day filled with learnings and happy memories. The cheerful faces and words of thanks from the patients and attendees make such events meaningful and unforgettable.
