The Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center-Department of Dermatology, in partnership with the Philippine Dermatological Society: Phototherapy Core Group held its timely Continuing Medical Education entitled “Tranquility: Safe, Sound and Blissful Practice in Dermatology” last March 20, 2018, at the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club.
The symposium was hosted by Dr. Ma. May Jasmin Ramos-Yason, Laser and Lights Consultant, and graced by proficient and distinguished speakers.
The event commenced with a solemn invocation by the Training Officer, Dr. Eileen Regalado-Morales, followed by an opening remark from the Chairman, Dr. Benedicto dL Carpio. A case of a patient with Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris who was enrolled in phototherapy treatment sessions was discussed by the OMMC 2nd year resident, Dr. Erica Teng. Dr. Ma. Lorna Fernandez-Frez, MD, FPDS, Chairman of the Philippine General Hospital Section of Dermatology shared her expertise with regard to Phototherapy for Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris patients. This was followed by another case discussion of a patient with Pediatric-onset Psoriasis by OMMC 2nd year resident, Dr. Jayne Bernadeth Li. Dr. Patricia Anne L. Ty-Tinio enlightened the audience with highlights of Phototherapy for Pediatric populations.
The second part of the symposium focused on legal updates for current Dermatological care. Tackling the Pharmacy Law that was recently actively put into effect for physicians, Atty. Rodolfo P. Soriano, RPh, LL.M expounded on the basis of the said law, discussing the implications of drug registration, manufacturing, and sale on our practice. This was followed by a talk on the enforcement of the Privacy Act by Atty. Elizabeth Amelia V. Tianco, MD, FPDS of the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center Department of Dermatology, which tackled on the medicolegal aspects of informed consent and record storage. Lastly, Dr. Vilma O. Pelino, MD, FPDS of the East Avenue Medical Center Department of Dermatology updated us with an echo of the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting held at San Diego Convention Center, California, U.S.A. last February 16-20, 2018.
With an intellectually stimulating discussions on Phototherapy, and updates regarding the legal practice of Dermatology, the afternoon draw to an end with PDS President Dr. Ma. Angela M. Lavadia giving updates regarding the current talks between the Philippine Dermatological Society and the Philippine Food and Drug Administration to come up with more viable and lasting solutions that will effectively lead to a win-win solution for both skincare providers and patients.
Once again, the PDS Continuing Medical Education series continues to serve as powerful arsenals designed to achieve the highest standards of patient care encompassing the broad field of Dermatology. #DermAuthority
