NeXXus: Dermatology as a Gateway to Women’s Health is the first ever online postgraduate course of the UP-PGH Department of Dermatology using Canvas as the platform. Dr. Winlove Mojica spearheaded this shift into an online platform, creating a virtual classroom that allowed participants to still view the course from the comfort and safety of their own home. Lectures were pre-recorded and provided on demand, allowing participants to learn at their own pace and review key topics as much as they desired.
This year, the focus of NeXXus was the woman, the lectures subdivided into 5 broad topics that followed the woman’s journey from birth to her golden years. A total of 997 registrants joined the postgraduate course, exceeding all expectations. Dr. Mae Ramirez-Quizon presented the complications and pitfalls of excessive and improper use of cosmetic nail products. Dr. Mariecon Escuadro-Chin touched on the skin changes unique to pregnant women and the latest in the management of these conditions. Furthermore, Dr. Claudine Yap-Silva and Dr. Eileen Liesl Cubillan discussed aging, its mechanisms and the current knowledge on how to slow it all down.
Dr. Maria Christina Filomena Batac presented the causative mechanisms behind vulvar itch and our role as dermatologists to deal with and to alleviate these sensitive conditions in women.
Finally, Dr. Winlove Mojica discussed the needs of trans women, how we as medical professionals can help them especially during their transitions.
The UP-PGH Department of Dermatology is proud to have achieved this milestone in the middle of the pandemic.
Not only is NeXXuS an ode to women’s health, but it is also a celebration of this new, flexible and innovative way of learning, in spite of these challenging times.
