Skinology: A Rainbow of Possibilities

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Department of Dermatology successfully hosted a virtual postgraduate course entitled “Skinology: A Rainbow of Possibilities” last August 26-27, 2021. The conference was open to the public and more than 550 were in attendance.

Day 1:
The program began with the engaging opening remarks by RITM’s Department of Dermatology Chair, Dr. Ma Teresita G. Gabriel, FPDS. The course was moderated and spearheaded by the Head of Cosmetic Dermatology unit of RITM, Dr. Evangeline B. Handog, FPDS. Dr. Jean Bolognia (USA) then gave an extensive lecture on Steven Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis and its management. This was followed by an informative lecture by Dr. Peter Yu (Taiwan) on hemangioma and nail disorders in Pediatrics. Lastly, Dr. Pravit Asawanonda (Thailand) shared his vast insights and knowledge on photodermatology. Open forums were conducted at the end of every lecture followed by the awarding of the
speakers.

Day 2:
The 2nd day of the course was moderated by the Head of Immunodermatology unit of RITM, Dr. Clarisse G. Mendoza, FPDS. The first lecture was presented by Dr. Henry Lim (USA) who provided an overview on the controversies of photoprotection and the role of Vitamin D in dermatologic conditions. This was then followed by an insightful lecture by Dr. Gisella Adasa (Philippines) who presented a comprehensive review on hyperhidrosis. Lastly, Dr Rungsima Wanitphakdeedecha (Thailand) gave a presentation about combination treatment for periorbital rejuvenation, mainly focusing on different non-ablative modalities. Open forums were conducted at the end of every lecture followed by the awarding of the
speakers. The program was concluded with the closing remarks by the Overall Chair of RITM 14th Post
graduate Course, Dr. Leilani Senador, FPDS.

Evaluation forms were completed by the participants at the end of the last plenary session.
Feedback was extremely positive with many participants citing the excellent organization and impressive program as highlights of the course.
