Commencing this year’s activities of the PDS Southern Luzon Chapter was the first LEAP activity for the year entitled “Beyond the Basics: Changing the Face of Acne.” Held at the Seda Hotel in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa last March 20, it was one of the most fun-filled mornings that had everyone bursting with laughter and personal discoveries.

The University of Santo Tomas Hospital (USTH) Department of Dermatology, in cooperation with the Pediatric Dermatology Subspecialty Core Group of the Philippine Dermatological Society (PDS), hosted the Continuing Medical Education (CME) entitled “Pedagogy & Dermatology: Integrating Learning Strategies with Professionalism” last February 27, 2019 held at the Skyloft Hotel and Residences, Manila.

In the practice of dermatology, contact dermatitis is encountered on almost a daily basis. Despite its commonality, it is actually a disease that requires careful consideration and critical investigation. Hence, as part of the Philippine Dermatological Society’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) series, the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital, in partnership with the Contact Dermatitis and Environmental Dermatology Subspecialty Core Group, conducted SAFE SKIN: Vigilance and Social Accountability in Contact Dermatitis.

The RITM has always been known to do things in a big way, and this was no less evident in its 12th postgraduate course with the theme “Dermatology Essentials”, where over 249 registrants gathered at the Bellevue Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa for the 1 1/2-day course on August 23-24, 2018.

The Makati Medical Center (MMC) Department of Dermatology in cooperation with the Philippine Dermatological Society’s (PDS) Dematologic Surgery Subspecialty Core Group hosted the monthly Contiuing Medical Education (CME) entitled “Dermatologic Surgery: From the Table to Beyond” last July 25, 2018 at Makati Medical Center.

The UP-PGH Section of Dermatology ushered a renaissance with its 24th postgraduate course held at Makati Diamond Residences last May 16, 2018. Under the theme “SOAR: Continuing the excellence in medical dermatology”, the course truly reflected the expertise of the Section.

At present, society is a mishmash of complementary forces: tradition and innovation, culture and technology, progress with a respect to history.

The USTH Department of Dermatology together with the PDS Pediatric Dermatology Subspecialty Core Group hosted the monthly CME entitled: “SKINTEGRITY: Perfecting the Art of Dermatology with Professionalism and Communication Skills” last May 30, 2018 at the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club, Mandaluyong City.

In line with the CME topic highlighted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) which is Psychodermatology, we were inspired to come up with the theme “Dermatologist’s Psyche: Touching Lives” to place value, as clinicians, in delivering holistic care to our patients.
