Psoriasis Clinical Pathway

Adapted from the Rizal Medical Center Psoriasis Clinical Pathway

introduction

The Psoriasis Clinical Pathway of Rizal Medical Center was developed in 2019 in order to standardize, improve the quality of care, and maximize the outcomes of psoriasis patients in accordance to the hospital’s own capacity. It underwent a systematic process of literature search, screening for relevant guidelines, and appraisal of chosen articles. A series of technical working group meetings was conducted to discuss the recommendations of the adapted guidelines (NICE Guidelines, 2017 and Malaysian Guidelines, 2013), and to come up with the pathway with some modifications based on local setting. In March 2021, it was reviewed by the PDS Photodermatology Subspecialty Core Group. Their recommendations based on recent guidelines and expert opinions were incorporated in the revised pathway.

Clinical pathways translate adapted clinical practice guidelines into clinical processes of care within the unique culture and environment of a healthcare institution, such as Rizal Medical Center. This quick reference version of the Psoriasis Clinical Pathway composed of algorithms is shared as a guiding tool for PDS members in the assessment and management of psoriasis. Other institutions may adapt this pathway and make their own versions and customize in accordance to their own institutions’ capacities and standards of care.
